Brewdog Pub Wedding in Cardiff | Jess + Blanche
I love pub weddings and this INFORMAL AND FUN Brewdog wedding in Cardiff was no exception!
They had me at Brewdog pub wedding with wings. One thing I love about my job is photographing groups of friends weddings, so when Jess and Blanche got in touch to tell me about their informal Brewdog pub wedding in Cardiff I was super happy as they are also good friends with one of my past couple’s - Amy and Matt! This was second lot of Amy and Matt’s friends weddings I got to photograph last year (and not the last). Every wedding is awesome to photograph but when you get to shoot the same friendship group you become even more part of the family and I feel incredibly lucky to be a part of so many friends lives. They also promised me all the wings I wanted.
“If you are thinking of booking Kate for your wedding photographer stop thinking and go for it!”
Jess and Blanche booked me despite the fact I’d just moved house and did their video chat with a total scattered brain whilst surrounded by packing boxes (and sitting precariously on one) and I was so excited they had chosen me! I loved their priorities that came before booking a photographer - a pub they loved with plenty of beer and good food!
Jess and Blanche decided they didn’t want any preparation covering so I started my morning with a little wander around Cardiff with my awesome friend and second shooter Dani and having the biggest bagel sandwich ever before heading to City Hall where the register office ceremony was being held. It was a beautifully sunny day with blue skies, and guests started to pile out of the front of City Hall ready for the ceremony. Jess and Blanche both walked down the aisle with their dads, and there were some really funny moments during the ceremony, like Jess’s nervous sweaty hands resulting in some lovely laughter from Blanche and guests. And a lovely reading from Blanche’s brother James. I could already tell this was going to be a super fun day for everyone!
After their ceremony they were showered with confetti on the lawn outside, narrowly avoiding the arrival of another wedding who were going wild with the silly string (in retrospect we definitely should have joined in with that, even if they were total strangers aha).
Hugs and some informal family photos before everyone headed off to Brewdog for beer! Jess, Blanche and I hung back so we could walk together to the wedding reception whilst taking some couple portraits on the Cardiff streets along the way. Jess decided she’d had enough of her shoes and did the entire walk barefoot, much like me at the end of a night out (back in the day anyway). Proving they already knew me so well they stopped by any brick wall I might like and jumped into place the second I yelped ‘ooo a graffiti cat’!
BrewDog was such an awesome choice of wedding venue, and the couple chose it on one drunken evening they emailed BrewDog, just to see if they’d hold their wedding reception because it had two of their fave things - wings and beer. I like that thinking.
Wings were devoured, beer was had, and speeches were held. It was really relaxed and SO much fun. The best wedding speech ever goes to Jess’s mum Wendy who read out a ‘dating profile’ from a magazine Jess had filled in when she was a little girl, Blanche succeeded in making Jess (and her brother James) cry during her speech.
There were lots of DIY elements to this wedding, all the table decor was made by them, complete with boozey wedding favours (that not all guests could handle hehe). They also created their own polaroid photo booth which made for some serious guest entertainment, and everyone loved sticking their photos in the guestbook with a little message. We popped along to Millennium Stadium for a few more informal couple portraits as they both love Rugby and actually met playing Rugby on opposing teams. Brewdog kept the beer flowing all evening, and put out some delicious cheese complete with the wedding cake, the staff were SO awesome. Especially since I’m pretty sure this was their first wedding reception! The cake from Bertie Bakes was SO good.
Props go to Amy and Matt for kicking off the dancing just before it was time for me to head off (which always makes me super sad and dancing makes it all better). An extra special shout out to my awesome second shooter Dani for constantly bringing me water, holding my flashes and capturing some hilarious antics between guests. Cardiff is definitely one of my favourite cities and I can’t wait to be back there, hopefully photographing Jess + Blanche and their new dog! With any luck down at Brewdog!
This is what Blanche and Jess had to say about working with me, Kate Jackson Photography for their Brewdog Pub Wedding:
“If you are thinking of booking Kate for your wedding photographer stop thinking and go for it! From when we had our first Skype chat to the big day she seemed genuinely interested in our relationship story and as such what was important to us about our wedding. She caught some beautiful moments we wouldn’t have seen otherwise and every single photo was great. You should stop reading this review and just book her your won’t regret it!”
